  help me find a good video store in/around hermosa beach, ca.

  I'm looking for a hip, alternative-minded video store in the south bay of southern california. I live in hermosa beach and ever since I moved down here I've been jonesing to find a good alternative video store.
  
  I'm looking for typical art-house movie fare - kurosawa, herzog, fellini, as well as a good collection of foreign and cult films.
  
  any suggestions helpful. I'm hoping someone has picked up the slack left when video archives closed down.

  What is my Senator saying about Net Neutrality?

  Net Neutrality Issue: Please help me interpret this email from my Senator. I used some organization's web site to send an email to Diane Feinstein (California)about net neutrality, and how important I think it is. This is what she wrote back (or what her staff wrote back)
  
  "It is vital to Americans and to our economy that we provide
  access to an open Internet with a balanced playing field for
  network, service and information providers. Giving consumers
  more access to and choices over information and services available
  over the Internet should not compromise other providers. Should
  legislation regarding network neutrality come before the Senate I
  will be sure to keep your views in mind."
  
  I am confounded by this. It seems that her position favors the corporations and their nefarious plans, but to be honest, I can't tell from the language she uses. It sounds like DoubleSpeak. What do you think?
  
  How should I respond? I would like to send her a hand-written letter this time.

  SMART-capable firewire enclosure?

  Are there any Firewire or USB external hard drive enclosures that support translation of SMART messages? I would like to use smartctl (on OS X) to monitor SMART error logs on an enternal hard drive, but haven't been able to find any enclosures that pass SMART messages over the bridge chip..

  Mixtape suggestions of ridiculous 1950s pop music. I'm looking for songs that take the 1950s style to the hilt. Better if they get ridiculous along the way. And take backup singers with them.
  
  There's no emotional or lyrical theme, just that -- I was making a mix for someone who liked postmodern electronica and kept perversely slipping ultra-pop into the playlist to contrast with whatever discord or cacaphony I'd just heard (Prefuse 73 or whatever). I realized I needed antidotes. :p
  
  So, these may not seem funny to you if you're still sick of the oldies station, but the idea is that they're funny in the context of "sophisticated" music or from an ironically detached perspective. (I don't mean to sound like a jerk here -- just trying to be explicit.) Even on their own, they crack me up.
  
  Here are the songs so far. Sorry for my total lack of musical vocabulary:
  
  * Blue Moon (Marcels). Total classic '50s sound.
  * Runaround Sue (Dion & Belmonts). Ditto. That classic chord progression (1-4-5?). Plus funny bits ("she gooooooes.... out with other guys!")
  * Rock & Roll Is Here To Stay (Sha-Na-Na). So manic. This song goes up a step, twice.
  * Be True To Your School (Beach Boys). There are cheerleaders in the background!
  
  You get the picture. Thoughts? Songs from the 50s that crack you up?

  My cell phone is being bugged, I have changed my number several times. My corded landline phone is also bugged. My apartment has been bugged , don't know if it still is since I have moved. Don't know how they were able to bug my last apartment but it was. Can anyone help me

  Bakers and homemakers; I need bread/dough recipes. I've been searching the internet and I'm finding lots of stuff for bread machines and sweetbreads and donuts.
  
  I would like to be able to make bread from scratch that makes my house smell good and that requires some old-world skill.
  
  I'm handy in the kitchen so don't worry about skill level.

  Wireless Connections Failing

  Help connecting to the internet needed! I'm in a new house and the internet all of a sudden stopped working. My wireless can "see" several networks, have a strong signal and good speed, but I don't get assigned a network address. (the networks are unsecured.) Sometimes I'll connect yet have "limited or no connectivity". Why would my connection suddenly stop working? I have no viruses, I checked. Also, can I run two routers at the same time? I'd like to use my secured network at the place, but there are only four keys and five girls. Can I run a connection from a modem to a router, then to another router? Would that work? Any info you have is appreciated!

  Are wireless positional mouses like the Gyration Air Mouse any good? I've been thinking of switching, but it's an expensive proposition, and I can't seem to find a store that has one hooked up to try it myself. Would someone who has used one advise me?

  The deck / patio on my mother's house is completely exposed to the sun and umbrellas haven't been working as shade providers. The wind breaks them. Or they provide insufficient shading. Besides building a roof over the deck, what else can we try to turn her deck into a nicely shaded space?
